Valencia’s population has 800,000 inhabitants, or even 1,500,000 if you add the population of the surrounding suburbs and towns. Valencia´s biggest square is called Plaza del Ayuntamiento, where the city hall is situated. In Plaza de la Virgen (Virgin´s square) you’re bound to find thee Basilica of the Virgin and the Turia fountain. This is both a popular spot for locals and visitors. Nearby is the Plaza de la Reina, in which there is a Cathedral, orange trees, and plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants.
SHOPPING
If, while you’re studying, you feel like buying something typical from Valencia, try ceramics. A wide range of qualities and sizes can be found, with Manises as the undisputed center of traditional. Porcelanas Lladró is the home of Ceramics, a firm that exports all across the planet. Wood craftwork, which led to the thriving furniture industry, can be found in the towns of Alboraya, Xirivella and Torrent, while Sagunto is the place for cork handicrafts.
Parks
Botanical Gardens:
Valencia’s University has done a lot to the new gardens which in turn, increased their links with other Spanish and foreign botanical gardens and achieved great fame. 3,000 different plant species and a variety of plants from extremely different climates could be found here in Valencia.
Monforte Gardens:
These are neoclassical gardens of the 19th century and have a large amount of marble statues, pools, fountains, streets and summerhouses. Some very interesting and remarkable landscape effects are given to the gardens.
Jardines de los Reales Viveros :
The great history of the park, is of Arabic origin, its gardening wealth and the large amount of sculptures and fountains, make the surroundings seem almost highlighted.

Jardines del Viejo Cauce del Turia:
Valencia´s old riverbed has been turned into a couple of differently designed gardens and a new focal point for the city at the same time. Of particular interest are Gulliver's children's park and the gardens opposite the Palacio de la Música.
